Sea Buckthorn is a shrub whose flowers, leaves and especially the fruits are used in herbal therapies with huge health benefits. This fruit contains a high amount of vitamin C, even more than citruses.
Sea buckthorn fruit contains vitamin A, C, B complex, E, P, K, M and elements such as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and sodium. Buckthorn is rich in beta-carotene (more than carrots), and pectin, sugars, amino acids and essential fatty acids.
You didn’t know that buckthorn fruits are a veritable natural flu vaccine highly effective in both adults and children. By its high vitamin complex and antioxidants, buckthorn activates the immune system and increases body’s ability to react effectively to viral and bacterial attacks.
Buckthorn can relieve and cure skin diseases, relieves negative effects of stress improves liver function and strengthens the heart.
The fruits are harvested from August to late October. This fruits can be eaten raw because they are sweet and sour, or can be crushed and mashed (always with stainless steel instruments). Also, you can prepare buckthorn syrup as it follows:
Sea Buckthorn Berries syrup
Put cleaned and crushed sea buckthorn berries in a glass or porcelain bowl. Pour over them natural honey (it’s recommended to have manufacturer certificate) to cover the berries. Leave it in a cool, dry place (refrigerator), stirring daily, for a week.
Take daily, 6 tablespoons of syrup.
